The philosophy of education in Ukraine of the 20th — early 20th century. — Is that a fiction or real fact? The paper is dedicated to analysis of methodological preconditions and methodical means of studying this issue. It is emphasized that the culturological approach enables to explicate the historical forms of the philosophy of education. In compliance with its postulates the subject of the philosophy of education is defined as educationally specialized philosophical discourse that cannot be reproduced only on the basis of the published works but with the help of archival data. The connection of the philosophy of education with academic philosophy is noticed. The historical factors are shown which should be taken into account when studying the history of the philosophy of education in Ukraine of the 19th — early 20th century. The fragments and descriptions of some typical archival documents — educational programs, synopses of lectures, reports of educational institutes, surveys of teaching, class registers and curriculums — as sources of information are presented that permitted to reconstruct the philosophy-educational discourse in the Kyiv academic tradition of the stated period.
