Based upon an example of the history of Ukrainian philosophy which includes literary works as an integral part of historical-philosophical canon, different ways of challenging literary works within a historical-philosophical discourse are analyzed in the article. The author clarifies what is the value of the literary work for different genres of the history of philosophy and the conditions, under which literature may consist a proper subject of historical-philosophical analysis.
